Medical Billing & Coding → Opportunistic Course Overview
Prepare for a specialty field that continues to expand. This course is designed to develop skills used in theory and practice of CPT (procedure codes), ICD-9-CM (diagnoses codes), and HCPCS codes for medical outpatient billing. In addition to coding procedures, students learn billing software programs, claims reimbursement, and various medical-related software for data protection and data transmission. Students completing this course are prepared for insurance billing positions in the health care industry.
CIT College of InfoMedical Technology's Medical Coding & Billing program provides hands-on training in various activities of the medical office, including the usage of medical software, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, medial coding and insurance billing and reimbursement management. Our program is designed to
provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to obtain employment in the healthcare profession medical reimbursement management arena.
This course prepares the student for medical billing front office, billing and follow-up with collections and CPT and ICD-9 coding. Successful completion of this program enables the student to meet the entry-level requirements to perform a variety of tasks at different health care facilities. Students will also prepare for the entry level coding exam. This exam will be the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) National Certification Examination format. The student will also obtain HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) certification.
The Medical Coding Program provides hands-on training for a career in the coding industry or medical billing office, including the usage of medical software, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, with strong emphasis on advanced medical coding skills.
Program Length: 39 weeks (Weekday Schedule) 52 Weeks (Weekend Schedule) or 740 Clock Hours (Presented in 4-hour classes 5 nights per week OR in 8-hour classes 2 days per weekend)
